Embodied Wealth: get rich with this daily exercise

“You keep moving the goal post” Elizabeth said. And the pain of doing that had really sunk in. In 2010 I wanted NOTHING more -  literally nothing more -  than to run my own business, get well paid and create financial security for myself. To do meaningful work, take care of the people I love, and be a positive force in my community. Oh and I would envision being flown around for work and having interesting dinner parties with people from around the world. I dreamed of long walks in nature with my partner, perhaps multiple homes one day.

More or less I got a very beautiful version of the above.

Though sadly, most days (lately) I’ve been seeing a pattern of thinking that is holding me back from living in the amazement, awe, gratitude and joy of this.

My long list of what I haven’t done yet is taking over my psyche.

The goals I’ve yet to achieve.

The areas of life I could improve upon; waiting 90 minutes in before having coffee in the morning, more strength training, connecting with distant relatives, getting those hand written cards out! On and on.

I am recognizing, my desire for self-growth is great, but not at the expense of feeling the abundance of what I already have. I’m rapidly stepping over, and over every accomplishment.

The unauthorized audio recording in my head “What’s next!”

The reality is that my life ebbs and flows. My moods can change like the weather, my goals move often without me noticing and acknowledging the impact of creating more.

Elizabeth continues “Before we talk about your cashflow spreadsheet, I want you to do a savoring practice for 30 days. Write down and embody what it means to savor the goodness right here”. It sounded similar to a gratitude practice. She walked me through a spontaneous “savoring meditation”. As I closed my eyes and felt what savoring was in my body – I began to experience things differently. I started seeing the incredible connections I had made the week before in my work, the photographer friend who invited me into a complimentary session, the places I was booked to travel to, the love I felt from my recent exchange with someone in town. The gesture of care I brought to someone that day. My cuddle session with my cats.

Was it really all that close when my mind keeps telling me I’m so far?

Savor more, and you will see.

Take time each day to embody the feelings of savoring goodness. It will change your life.

ACTION: Set aside a journal and write one thing to savor per day. Then close your eyes and meditate on that.

2024 How To Change Your Life With 2 Steps

Abundance mentality. We all throw these new age terms but what is it in our lived reality? I don’t have all the answers but here’s a few things that have worked for me in my lifetime.

Change Starts With Accepting What Is: this will forever be my quickest path to change. The moment I realize “hey I’d like to change something” I start with observation and curiosity. Hmm, “I wonder why I do this”. I don’t even really go into the inquiry and reflection process I simply just open up space to say, there’s some resistance here and she’s temperamental to proceed with gentle caution! Being curious means you trust that change can happen for you. You can trust by the integrity of honoring your truth and seeing the results. The first times are so scary, but once you have a few repetitions under your belt you recognize that half the things we want to change and spend hours, weeks, or years beating ourselves up about can more easily and gracefully be resolved. Simply the awareness begins the healing process.

My second step is always making my vision more compelling. It’s like the crowding out theory. The more I make a nutritious meal that I absolutely love, the less I’ll eat the pizza. I don’t need to focus on not eating the pizza. I need to focus on creating something more compelling and exciting to replace it that gives me a lot of pleasure and satisfaction. When we don’t feel the energy and aliveness of our vision, we feel stuck in patterns of following the status quo or the shiny person that seems to have it all.

Stop worrying, comparing, focusing on what’s not working and simply just design a turned on year. Literally. First start by allowing yourself to dream without limits. If you designed a turned on year, what would be first on this list?

ACTION: Envision there are no obstacles in your way. No lack of time, money, resources, and support make a list of everything you’d be excited to do in a year. Anything and everything – just dream big and let yourself have fun! Without attachment, free flow a creative list of anything that could be exciting. You can cross things out later. Write this list and do not analyze it.

Step back.

Then return a couple hours or days later and see the trends of what gets you giddy.

You’ll find important clues to what brings you energy and direct you towards shaping these values and ideas into your calendar. Let’s go! It’s time to have your best year yet.
